SENIOR BUYER
VERNON, CA

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This position is responsible for the development and maintenance of supplier relationships, contracts, and specific orders for the procurement of all supplies for the administrative and manufacturing operations and to act as a mentor to a young team of buyers.


PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Supplier Development: search for and qualify new suppliers and develop supplier relationships to improve quality, reduce lead times and costs
Obtains quotes for new components, services or equipment as required
Identify cost reduction opportunities
Negotiate, manage annual contracts with suppliers
Monitor Key Performance Indicators critical to customer expectations
Address supplier quality issues
Maintain Vendor Managed Inventory plan and negotiate contracts with vendors
Negotiate contracts for capital equipment as required
Place specified orders to suppliers as determined by manufacturing requirements to ensure on-time shipments or internal requirements
Expedite purchase orders needed for manufacturing, as required; has authority to determine shipping methods to ensure that customer’s requirements are met
Places orders in a timely manner
Performs all other duties as directed or required by company

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS:
• Communicates professionally and effectively with Supervisor, co-workers and outside contractors
• Works with courtesy, tact and effectiveness when dealing with co-workers
• Supplier on time delivery and quality
• Purchase orders are being placed accordingly and in a timely manner
• Takes initiative to get the orders expedited if needed to complete an order

ENVIRONMENT

The Senior Buyer has the authority to decide which procedures and in what sequence should be followed to achieve the required results and must follow purchase order approval guidelines and policies. The Senior Buyer will also mentor and lead the junior Buyers to share best practices and complete continuous improvement projects.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
5+ years of experience as a Buyer
Knowledge of procurement procedures and standards
Knowledge and experience with Continuous Improvement is key
Ability to utilize ERP and other related software tools
Above average communications skills
Knowledge of Microsoft office applications
Strong people skills
Bachelor’s Degree and CPIM preferred
